A New Twist on Thanksgiving… Friendsgiving!

Can’t afford to jet on home for Thanksgiving? Dreading 20 questions with your in-laws? Want to share thanksgiving with your closest friends? I smell a Friendsgiving in the air! Send an Evite to all of your closest friends and let them know that you will be hosting Thanksgiving this year and that it is very exclusive – friends only! Throwing a dinner party can be stressful at times but with these simple tips and tricks your friends will be talking about your turkey day celebration for years to come.

1. Place Settings: Show your personal style and go all out! This isn’t your somewhat boring get together at grandmas house, it’s a time with your closest friends that know you the best – show off what chew got! Thanksgiving is all about brown, orange, yellow, and red. Class it up with a couple shades of yellow and add a statement color to make everything pop. Cut Costs: pick one element to be your statement like floral, plates, or nametags and have the rest of your table chic and simple.

2. Floral: Trash the cornucopias and bring in the vases. It’s always good to use short clear vases so your guests’ conversations aren’t construed by obnoxiously large bouquets. Pick out your favorite shades of yellow, red, and orange to create festive yet simple centerpieces for your dining table. Sunflowers are a great choice!

3. Food: Turkeys great and all, but who’s going to make it? A simple and cost effective way to get all of your tummies stuffed while still trying to stick to tradition is baking homemade turkey potpies. And for dessert, mini pumpkin bars will send your guests into a delightfully yummy food coma. Visit Taste of Home  and Sweet Peas Kitchen for two favorite recipes!

4. Entertainment: So now that your stuffed, it may be time to think about burning all those calories off! Nothing is more rejuvenating than soaking in and enjoying the fresh fall air with your best buds. While watching football is a popular pass time in most homes on Thanksgiving, make the game come to life and get down and dirty with your friends with some good old fashioned flag football. Once you’re all beat, head back inside for some cocktails and let the NFL take care of the rest.

5. Drinks: The best way to please your guests when it comes to drinks is giving them a selection to choose from. Creating a festive mini bar with countless options can never leave your friends empty handed. Decorate your already existing mini bar with bright and colorful shades of red, yellow, and orange. Throw in some flowers and alcohol and call it day!
