I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas!

Not only is going green a favor to mother nature, it’s also kind on your wallet.  If you love creating a warm and festive environment for your family and friends, then you know how much ornaments, candles, stockings, garland… (need I continue?) can really add up too. You deserve to ask Santa for those adorable heels, not to pay your credit card bill that’s flourished with holiday decor spending. Here are some great tips to give your home that organic glow!

Table and Mantel Decorations

You can create a lovely centerpiece just by filling a flowerpot or vase (that you already own) with pine cones and real evergreen boughs.  You can even place cinnamon sticks or fruit in there for more color.  Give some chic flavor to it by spray-painting any of those items gold or silver, then throw a bit of garland around it and voilà!

Holiday Cards

Get artistic and cut and paste your own cards!  Or even better… go edible!  A fun way to give a twist to your holiday cards this year is to bake cookies.  You can find red or green saran wrap to put them in, tie a ribbon at the top, and then tag it with a lovable holiday quote.  A friend of mine had the creative idea of zip-locking a snack size bag of marshmallows and then stapled a note to it which read, “I know you’ve been naughty all year, so here’s the scoop… all you get is snowman’s poop!”  It made everyone laugh and was fun to munch on.

Family Fun

No need for you to put the burden of decorating entirely on you!  Make it a fun experience by getting the family involved.  Making gingerbread houses never gets old and it’s always a sweet and tasty treat.  Gather everyone in teams and see who can make the longest popcorn garland, and get fancy by stringing in cranberries for color!

Now bust out those pumpkin spice candles and go green!
