The Glass is Half Full!
With countless parties penciled in our date books this time of year, it’s important to make yours SHINE above the rest. You’ve ordered the floral arrangements, hung the holly and set the tables. But the real question is: What to do with the stemware? You remember that party you attended last year where everyone had the exact same glass and the second you put yours down no one knows who’s is who’s. So this holiday season we propose a toast…to personalized glasses. No, you don’t have to be the next Martha Stewart OR break the bank to do so. With the help of your local craft store you can make beautiful and unique items for each of your guests that are not only functional but can double as a party favor!
To begin, take a trip to your local home store or IKEA and purchase glasses. Keep in mind the cocktails you’ll be serving. Prep each glass so they are ready for use immediately after you customize them. Consider how many glasses you will be decorating and the level of craftsmanship each will take. Whether you have hours to idle or are removing your last curler as your friends are walking through the door, below are 3 easy and affordable options to bring a little frosting to each flute.
1.) Simple & Sweet. Use ribbon to adorn the bottom of each stem. Since they should be no more then a couple of inches long, you can use scrap ribbon. Or better yet, comb the isles and find ribbons that match your friend’s personalities. Is she cool and classic? Try black with white polka dots. That conservative friend? Try a satin solid color ribbon. As for the party animal of the group? How about a glittery hot pink trimming! Now tie a not or tie a bow…but either way let the champagne flow!
2.) Sticker-tastic. This will take a little more time but really lets you get creative! Think of something specific that describes or reminds you of each visitor. Now that you have an image in mind try to incorporate your party theme. Visit a scrapbook store, as they will provide you with the best selection and quality stickers. Think of ways to arrange the stickers on each glass. You can make each one completely different or have one continuous theme with slight variations on each tumbler.
3.) Stencil Silliness. This is your time to be a kid again. While this option will essentially take you the longest to make, it will allow your friends to enjoy your creations time and time again. Take out the brushes and paint (you’ll need to purchase specialty glass paint) or even glue and gems and bling out that glass like they’re a rock star! Try putting their initial on it or use a different colored jewel to rim the bottom of each glass. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, just wipe it off and try again!!
Make each guest feel how appreciative you are for his or her attendance. And remember, just like snowflakes no two friends are the same, so why should their glasses be!
