A Drink to the New Year

Desserts, the perfect outfit, someone to kiss at midnight, the décor, and of course champagne are on every host’s mind for the perfect New Year’s eve party.  This year kick off the New Year with a twist to the traditional flute of champagne and give your guests a new champagne drink that they will remember all year.

Before you choose the perfect drink for your guests, first make sure you know how to properly open a bottle of champagne.

  1. Before you attempt to open the bottle make sure the bottle has been chilled
  2. Next, unwrap the foil, and slowly twist the wire cage loose.  Make sure you do not completely remove the cage yet because the pressure could shoot the cork out suddenly.
  3. Grab a towel and securely wrap it around the cork.  With your other hand hold the bottom part of the bottle.
  4. Then, using your hand on the bottom of the bottle, slowly turn the bottle.  Finally you will hear the sweet, “POP” sound and not only is your champagne finally ready to drink, but your outfit is not ruined  since the towel caught the usual spray.

Now that you finally have popped the champagne it is time to make your drinks!

If you are celebrating in New York, or if you wish you were celebrating the big night in New York, you might want to try the NYE Rosebud Champagne Spritzer

Ingredients:

6 ounces champagne (not brut)

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1/2 ounce Chambord (raspberry liqueur)

1 or 2 raspberries

Directions:

Pour chilled champagne into a glass and add vodka.  Add Chambord, pouring slowly and do not mix (it’s pretty when dark red at the bottom fades to the top as a pretty shade of pink towards the top).  Drop in a raspberry and serve.

Or maybe your guests prefer sweets and desserts.  Then, you may want to try a Chocolate Champagne Cocktail.
